Local Places to Visit
This area of Central Portugal is reminiscent of the Lake District or the Scottish Highlands with sun! There are green mountains with small whitewashed villages and pretty market towns and wide rivers flowing into the man made lakes that are the water reservoirs for the area.
There are lots of River Beaches in the area where you can swim or relax by the water, some are popular and others are more secluded try discovering one all to yourself, not impossible!
If you weary of just lazing in the sun at the house whilst enjoying the spectacular view you could try visiting one of the local markets. Most of the small towns have a weekly market where you can buy almost anything!
There are many good restaurants in the area serving local Portuguese dishes alongside more traditional International food. Try the local wines which are very good.
Further afield you could take a trip to the seaside approx. 50kms to Figueira de Foz. Visit the ancient university city of Coimbra approx. 40kms where you can wander through the narrow cobbled streets. Take a trip to the Serra de Estrela approx. 50kms and taste the locally made goats cheese or drive up the Torre to the highest point, a spectacular trip in every sense of the word!
